The Grand Canyon overwhelms our senses through its immense size. The Canyon is 277 river miles (446km) long, up to 18 miles (29km) wide and is located in the state of Arizona in the United States.
In general, the visit time depends very much on whether you want to make a short visit, or a hike. We wanted to see the canyon during sunrise, so we set off in the middle of the night. I highly recommend the Kaibab Trail, which we hiked for 3 hours.
You should take your own car or rental car to explore the Canyon. Follow the link to a Roadmap of the Canyon: (click here)
I really don't recommend to visit the Skywalk because you had to drive with a bus tour to the attraction and you had to pay more than $100 per person. The South Rim entrance fee is $30 per car. But if you plan to visit also other national parks in the USA, i really recommend a Interagency Annual Pass for $80 per car. This pass provides access to more than 2,000 recreation areas. Before we started from Las Vegas, we bought all necessary things for our wildlife week. After that, we drove with our navigation system about 1h into the east to reach the Hoover Dam.
The dam lies on our route to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, so we do not need to take a detour.

Well worth a visit to this historic piece of engineering. Looking over the edge is a really cool feeling. Parking on the Arizona side of the Dam is free.

It was a very nice place to go an a walk and explore the near. We stayed there about a half hour.
It was about 5:30PM at departure and we planned to drive as long as possible in the direction of the South Rim Canyon entrance.
We had no fixed destination and so we decided to take a break, to go to the bathroom and have dinner in a restaurant.
By a happy coincidence, we drove past a small village, which looked very inviting.
It was called Seligman and was located right on the historic Route 66. There we found also a nice restaurant.

Seligman, AZ 86337

Seligman is a very small town but the birthplace of Historic Route 66. With the few old shops, restaurants and motels you can imagine how this small village has become a point of attraction on route 66.

Such a wonderful atmosphere inside the restaurant with excellent food. The service is very kind and we had luck to hear a typical American country singer live.

After the delicious meal in Lilo's restaurant we had the choice, whether we would drive further, or rather find a parking lot to sleep.
To drink still a few beers, we decided for the second choice.
Later in the night, we asked the restaurant owner if we were allowed to use his parking lot overnight, that we can sleep there in our rental cars.
We were already curious if this will be a first relaxing night in the vehicles.
I found it really comfortable to sleep on the mattresses. However, for 2 people was not very much space in the car, but we mastered the situation very well.

On the day before we decided to wake up very early in the morning to drive to the Canyon, that we could see the sunrise there.
So we left Seligman at 4AM and drove about 1,5h to reach the entrance.
When we reached the finish point, we went to the edge of the canyon and watched the sun rise. It was such a beautiful moment that I will never forget.

This is one of the most beautiful natural wonder i have seen in my life. Everyone should visit this place at least once in their life. The beauty of this park and the landscape is truly amazing. I would highly recommend to visit the South Rim of the Canyon and not the West Rim with the Skywalk because it is more expensive there.

We explored the area about one and a half hour long.
But we also wanted to go along a hiking trail and so we searched on our map, where the next good trail is.
We found the South Kaibab Trail 5min away from our position.

Yaki Point Rd, Grand Canyon Village, AZ 86023

I think this is one of the best South Rim Trails. We walked on the beautiful trail about 1,5h to the OoH AaH Point, if you have more time you should make a full day hike.

After about 2,5h on the trail we decided to drive on, because there is still a 130-mile-long route ahead of us to our today's destination, the city Page.
We were very happy that after an hour drive the small village Cameron was on our way, because we had not much fuel.

At the gas station in Cameron we took a short break to eat lunch and relax.
After a while we went on to our next destination.
